The Site Plan/Roof.
Copley Square to the south is an American Acropolis. It is recognized beyond this location as a place of significance in the American scene. It was important that care be taken to provide a design which would be simple, yet respect the historic Copley Square. It is an area where important Boston institutions, i.e. Trinity Church, and Boston Public Library have an influence in the design of the space. As was stated by Mr. McKim of McKim, Mead and White, of the 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair, we have a responsibility to "make things as beautiful as were built in high culture".
.
As a first term project it was necessary to look at what could be done with the exterior of the building and internally with the functioning created by the program. The roof, again was a reflection of what could match the heights of the surrounding structures.
